The format of this text is a news article. This article is written by Jumana Farouky, who is a journalist of TIME. He is a journalist outside of the country and he is from London. This article is significant because he wrote this article by relating the Global Warming and the climate change that goes on Tanzania. This article’s audience is educated people like scientist, conservationist who are interested in Global Warming. This article is written to tell people the damage that humans made to our environment and to warn people that Global Warming is becoming serious. In this article, most of it is talking objective but there is a paragraph that persuades the readers to the writer’s solution to the problem. “The best thing that conservationists can do is to better design the protected areas,” This part shows that the writer is trying to persuade the readers about his solution to this problem. This date of his article written is October 9 2007. This date is significant because it happened not long time ago but just last year and it also tells that if the problem was that bad last year, this year the problem will be worse.

The text I analyzed was a news article written by a foreign man named Daniel Dickinson. I suspect that the author is not from Taznai because he seems to be writing from a different perspective than someone who was from the country would, reffering to the countries people as “they” and “Tanzania’s” and not using the word “us”. This article seems to be written for young/middle-aged adults who might be interested in international current events it was written to give some sort of insight of the rest of the world. There is a positive perspective on the article and Daniel Dickinson shows that the people are impressed by the new technology that has developed in their country. Daniel doesn’t show any personal opinion in the text therefor I could not find any emotions he had towards the content. This article is only written to show factual events and how other react to them; Daniel Dickinson does not show any feeling in this article. The date of this article, April 21 2008, is recent implying that technology in Tanzania is improving today.

My text is called “A Change of Direction for Tanzania” and it is a news article about the refugee problem in Tanzania. It also has a historical perspective to it. The authors are Rebecca Parnell and Barb Superka and they are two journalists from refugee. They are from outside the country so it changes their perspective on the topic a bit. This article was intended for educated people and students who are interested in world affairs. It was written to inform them on the situation in Tanzania. The writer is trying to be objective and doesn’t have strong emotions about the content. The writer has no point of view in the written text and only gives facts. This text was written in 1997 during the problem, which might not be accurate because there is not much information on the topic at that point of time. It might have been more accurate 1 year after the incident because there would be more information.

Title of text: The word- The origin of the Earth
Author: Not known
Genre: Myth

Clues about day to day life:
In the story it says that “The ants had no food so they ate their own excrement.” This tells that the people had no food to eat. This story keeps on talking about excrement. So I think it’s because they were farming and they had to use excrement to farm plants.
Clues about values and beliefs:
In the story, it said that at the beginning, “There were only winds, tree ants and atmosphere which were controlled by the power of the word.” This tells that they believed in one God, the wind and they were controlled by their God. I think they really cared for trees because in the story it said that “At the beginning only a tree stood in the air and there was the wind.”
Clues about climate and geography:
In the story there is a part that “The tree ants flied away with the leaf because of the wind. This tells there was a strong wind and because the ants had no food to eat, I think the geography is a desert or an area that has no food to eat.
Other clues:
They compared themselves as ants because they knew that they were small and weak compared to the nature.
Clues about issues:
In the story the ants flied away because of the wind. So I think there was a natural disaster and they had to run away from their homes. And in their new home didn’t have much to eat so I think they compared having hard time finding food to “eating their own excrement.”
Clues about language or dialect:
In the story they worshiped the God of ‘Word’. This tells that they had a language.

History:
Adumu originated with the Maasai tribe around 100 years ago. Adumu is a coming of age ceremony dance of the Maasai tribe warriors, which involves a chanting circle of young men who one by one enter the center and try to jump as high as they can while showing as little effort as they can. The point of this dance or game is that the highest jumper, after going through everyone in the group, is supposed to get all the girls. This, as humorous as it may seem, is part of the tribe’s culture. This ritualistic dance usually lasts over 10 days.
Factors Making Adumu Relevant to Tanzania:
Majority of the Maasai Tribe is located in Tanzania, and them being the creators of this dance, the Adumu is majorly related to Tanzania and its culture.
Social Factors:
This dance is usually associated with coming of age boys, as they become warriors. This ritual is not professional and is performed very often.
Other Info:
Maasai woman parade around the men during the dance to temp ad encourage the men to do better. The women are dressed in their most fashionable outfits.

This article is talking about the climate change caused by global warming. This year, 1% of the gnus had been wiped out because of the climate change. Climatologists are saying that Africa will suffer the most because of global warming. Usually Tanzania, during rainy season, Tanzania should get mild rain over a long time and in dry season the weather should be reasonably mild, not too hot. But because of climate change it made rainy season shorter and heavier and the dry season longer and hotter. Which means that because of having long dry season, the vegetation like grass, which is necessary to many wild animals, will dry. So the wild animals in Tanzania will have an increase of death rate. Some people say what can we do about what the nature has done? But many argue that nature is interfered by global warming which humans caused. Because of this extreme weather change, conservationists are having hard time of protecting areas. So the article suggests that on a wet season, create alternative migration to the shallow part of the river and on dry seasons, create an area of backup grass to wild life if the animals need it.

1. Will there be consequences for the five students that were upset about the suspension of the fifteen? If so what are they?
2. In the future will there be more investigating to similar “crimes”? How will you do this?
3. Was there any damage done to the school building? If so what was vandalized?

I disagree with the students that started the uprising. They had no right to such a thing. I think they could have approached this situation in a different way, by going to the head and explaining in a calm matter what they felt the truth was and why they felt the fifteen students should be reinstated. Though I do feel the approach of the five was unnecessary I also feel that there should have been more investigation into the previous situation that lead to one death. I think that the acts of both the five students and the investigators were wrong ways to go about the situation. Hopefully this will be resolved and there will be no more incidents that happen like this one in the future.
